Legal events to have in your diary: September 2026 to February 2027

The second half of 2026 is a busy stretch for legal events, with conferences covering law firm management, artificial intelligence, compliance, property, claims and legal technology.

There is also plenty on offer for lawyers who would rather not travel, with online and hybrid training scheduled alongside the larger in-person conferences.

Whether you want CPD, a chance to meet other people working in the sector, or simply an afternoon out of the office hearing how other firms are handling the same problems, these are the legal events worth having in your diary over the next six months. Alternative Legal Management 2026

*14 to 15 September 2026 — Wyboston Lakes Resort, Bedfordshire — in person*

Alternative Legal Management marks its tenth anniversary this year and is aimed squarely at people running mid-market law firms.

Rather than focusing on a particular area of law, it brings managing partners, CEOs, CFOs, COOs and other decision-makers together to talk about the business of running a practice, with a programme built around profitability, sustainability and the strategic pressures on mid-tier firms.

If you want to compare notes on how other practices are responding to technology, regulation and shifting client expectations, this is one of the more management-focused dates in the calendar.

Law Society Economic Crime Conference 2026

*17 September 2026 — The Law Society, London and online — hybrid*

Economic crime compliance is still one of the largest regulatory headaches in the profession, which makes this full-day conference well timed.

It runs both in person and online and is aimed at lawyers and professionals working on anti-money laundering and economic crime obligations. With expectations around AML, sanctions and financial crime continuing to move, it is a useful reset for compliance teams.

ILFM Conference 2026: From Compliance to Confidence

*23 September 2026 — The Law Society, Chancery Lane, London — in person*

Law firm finance teams have a considerable amount of regulatory change to absorb, which makes the Institute of Legal Finance & Management conference especially relevant for COFAs, legal cashiers, practice managers, financial controllers and firm directors.

This year's theme is "From Compliance to Confidence: Leading legal finance through change", with up to six hours of CPD covering legal finance, governance and compliance. It lands at a pointed moment, with the SRA pursuing changes to client money, accountant's reports and the COLP and COFA roles.

Innovation Versus Compliance: Managing AI Risk in Legal Practice

*29 September 2026 — online*

AI adoption has moved quickly in law firms; the compliance work has not always kept pace.

The Law Society Leadership and Management Section is running an online session on exactly that tension. It should suit managing partners, compliance professionals and anyone responsible for writing an AI policy that will survive contact with fee earners. The session is free for members of the Leadership and Management and Risk and Compliance Sections.

Clio AI Summit 2026

*29 September 2026, 11am to 3pm — online — free*

For firms looking specifically at artificial intelligence, Clio's AI Summit is a free virtual event covering AI, growth and practice management, aimed at firms at every stage of adoption including those still only experimenting.

Because it is online and free, it is one of the more accessible options for smaller firms that cannot justify the time and cost of a full conference.

Law Society Property Conference 2026

*7 October 2026 — London — in person*

Conveyancing and property lawyers have had no shortage of regulatory and technological change, from digital identity and fraud risk through to developments in residential property.

The Property Conference offers a full day of updates, and the Law Society's Property Section is running other events through the autumn, including its Property Power Hour programme. For conveyancing firms this is likely to be the main professional date of the season.

Legal Geek Conference 2026

*14 to 15 October 2026 — Old Truman Brewery, Shoreditch, London — in person*

One of the biggest events on the legal technology calendar returns to London, with around 5,000 attendees expected from more than 65 countries and roughly 250 speakers.

The two-day programme pulls in law firms, in-house teams, legal operations professionals, technology businesses and regulators, with more than 100 sessions plus workshops, roundtables, demos and networking. If your interest is how AI and legal tech are reshaping delivery, this is the standout of the next six months.

The Legal Conference 2026

*15 October 2026 — Hilton Birmingham Metropole — in person*

Not every firm at a management conference is a national or international practice. The Legal Conference is built for leaders of SME firms of roughly 10 to 200 people: managing partners, CEOs, COOs, practice directors, heads of department and senior and equity partners.

Topics span leadership, business development, AI, wellbeing and operational performance. That SME focus is what makes it interesting — independent firms working out how to compete, grow and adopt technology without the budgets of the largest legal businesses. Structured and informal networking, workshops and a closing drinks reception round out the day.

Claims Futures Conference 2026

*21 October 2026 — Emirates Old Trafford, Manchester — in person*

Anyone in personal injury, financial mis-selling or the wider claims sector should look at Claims Futures. Organised by Legal Futures, the Manchester event runs plenary sessions alongside specialist streams on personal injury and financial mis-selling.

With the claims market facing continuing regulatory, funding and business-model pressure, there should be no shortage of argument about where the sector goes next.

Legal Futures Regulation & Compliance Conference 2026

*3 December 2026 — Cavendish Venues, 1 America Square, London — in person*

Compliance teams may want to keep 3 December free. The conference covers AML, AI, cyber security, client complaints and wider compliance obligations, bringing regulators, lawyers and compliance specialists into the same room with time for questions.

It is well timed against the SRA's current work on client money, firm management and financial controls.

Middle Temple: Mediation Mastery

*18 January 2027 — Middle Temple, London — in person*

The calendar restarts quickly after Christmas. Middle Temple has a run of events scheduled for January and February, including Mediation Mastery: A Barrister's Secret Weapon on 18 January, an evening session running from 5.45pm to 8.30pm. Online legal research training and advocacy events are also listed for January.

LegalEx London 2027

*11 February 2027 — Convene, 133 Houndsditch, City of London — in person*

LegalEx London returns in February following its relaunched 2026 conference. It is pitched at a deliberately broad audience: managing partners, solicitors, barristers, practice managers, operations directors, business development teams, technology professionals, compliance specialists and in-house lawyers.

The 2026 event drew more than 700 legal professionals, 35-plus speakers, 25 suppliers and 30 seminar sessions, with AI transformation, cyber security and digital innovation among the themes. A Manchester edition follows on 24 February 2027.

A busy six months for the legal sector

There is no shortage of legal training online, but in-person events still do something different. For lawyers, they are a chance to step away from client work and hear how others are handling the same changes. For firm leaders, practice managers and suppliers, the networking is often worth as much as the programme.

With AI adoption, regulatory reform, client money changes and continued consolidation all in play, there will be plenty to talk about.
