Personal injury events remain some of the best attended dates in the legal calendar, and for good reason. Few practice areas have absorbed as much change: fixed recoverable costs, the whiplash reforms, the small claims track, medical evidence standards and the steady squeeze on claimant firm economics have all landed within a few years of each other.
Claims conferences bring together claimant and defendant practitioners, insurers, medical agencies, funders and case managers. The plenary sessions tend to cover market structure — consolidation among claimant firms, the growth of claims management activity, and where volume work is heading — while specialist streams dig into personal injury and financial mis-selling claims. For a firm deciding whether volume PI is still viable, a day at a claims conference gives a clearer picture than any market report.
Clinical negligence has its own strong events programme. Residential conferences and day seminars cover liability and causation, expert evidence, quantum, limitation, inquests and the practical realities of litigating against NHS Resolution. These are heavily CPD-focused and usually feature a mix of leading counsel, medical experts and practitioners talking through recent decisions in detail.
Serious and catastrophic injury work is served by dedicated conferences on rehabilitation, life after injury, brain and spinal injury, periodical payments and working with case managers and deputies. Many of these are hosted by firms or chambers and are free to attend, which makes them accessible to smaller teams and to the clinicians and support organisations who work alongside lawyers.

Cross-border work in particular has grown more technical since the UK left the EU jurisdiction framework, and the specialist conferences are often the only place to hear practitioners work through jurisdiction and applicable law problems in real cases.
Most personal injury events in England and Wales run as one-day conferences in London, Manchester, Birmingham or Leeds, with a good number offering virtual attendance. Prices vary widely — chambers and firm-hosted events are frequently free, while association residential conferences carry a fuller price and deliver substantial CPD hours in return.
